Fabricius and Kastholm

Preben Fabricius and Jørgen Kastholm met in 1961, while studying under Finn Juhl on the Copenhagen School of Interior Design, and would carry on to forge just about the most fruitful and productive home design partnerships with the 20th Century. Fabricius’ skills being a cabinet maker, teamed with Kastholm’s blacksmith knowledge led these to produce sumptuous designs from other Gentofte studio, expertly combining materials to generate sleek, stylish pieces. Inspired by both functionalism and modernism, and also a healthy dash of 1960s panache, they devoted themselves to optimising shape, material and ergonomics. Their FK series is remembered as his or her most seminal pair of designs, because of this that the FK 6726 ‘Tulip’ Chair won them the inaugural ‘Gute Form’ prize in 1969, recognising their innovation and craft.
